ASTHMA WORKSHOPS

Asthma workshops

Asthma and Allergy Foundation opened an Asthma and Allergy Support Centre in 2017, designed to provide support services for people with asthma and allergy, their families, and carers across Scotland.

Officially opened by the Minister for Mental Health, Maureen Watt MSP, who is an asthma sufferer.

Support for people with asthma

The charity run asthma management workshops for people with asthma, helping them understand asthma, it triggers, the place of medication in the management of asthma and how to live well with the condition.

Support for children, young people & their parents:

We deliver asthma awareness and management workshops to children and young people, their parents, and carers to help them understand their asthma symptoms, identify their triggers, recognise an asthma attack, check inhaler technique, and follow their Asthma action plan for optimal control.

What to do in an asthma attack

Support for over 50’s:

The charity run workshops for over 50s both online and at the Asthma Support Centre and also deliver asthma awareness and management sessions in Sheltered Housing across the north east to benefit people with asthma, their families, and carers. When older people manage their asthma, they will live longer, healthier, active, and symptom-free lives.

Support for Schools:

We deliver workshop to school staff to equip them with the knowledge on how to support pupils with asthma to learn effectively and ensure that there are effective procedures in place in their schools to support pupils with asthma. We also deliver sessions for pupils to raise awareness of asthma as a health condition and enable pupils learn how to support their friends or classmate with asthma.

One of the schools in an area of high deprivation in Aberdeen has 250 pupils and 100 of the pupils have asthma. We carried out asthma workshops in all the classes, two sessions with teachers, a further two sessions with PSA’s and six workshops for parents. Prior to when we visited the school to deliver, the Head Teacher said they call Ambulance almost on a weekly basis because a child was having an asthma attack. However, after delivering the asthma workshops at the school, there was massive improvement both in health, attendance, and academic performance for pupils with asthma.

Workshops can be arranged by calling our friendly team on 01224 973001 or email info@asthmaandallergy.org.uk
