AIR pollution is out of control again. If I were to walk from Aberdeen’s St Nicholas Centre to Union Square via Market Street, I would suffer an asthma attack later that night. That’s a fact.

ASTHMA sufferers in Scotland are facing catastrophic consequences in the coming months because of the cost-of-living crisis.

Air pollution is any chemical, physical, or biological factor that contaminates the indoor or outdoor environment and alters the natural properties of the atmosphere. Every year air pollution kills around 2,500 people in Scotland.

Focussing on the pre-pubescent age group, boys are typically more likely to be diagnosed with Asthma than girls, and this trend majorly changes after puberty, where girls are twice as likely to develop asthma compared to boys.

World Asthma Day is held annually in the first week of May to increase awareness and improve the care needed around the world. This year’s theme is “Closing Gaps in Asthma Care” to raise awareness of preventable suffering experienced by those affected, as well as limit the costs incurred by treating uncontrolled Asthma.

Martina Chukwuma-Ezike was officially installed as The Lord Rector of the University of Aberdeen in time-honoured tradition on Friday, 25 March.

National Lottery Award Success

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation has received a National Lottery award of £143,064.00 from the National Lottery Community Fund to enable the charity to deliver the project “Breathing Room – Helping Young People with Asthma Breathe Easy” to benefit children and young people with asthma in the Glasgow area.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation Chief Executive has been elected Rector of the University of Aberdeen. Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, a former University of Aberdeen student, has been elected as the institution’s new rector.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation is delighted to have received assets worth £255,138 with additional funds of £14,000 to continue to provide practical support to people with asthma across Scotland and also fund asthma research.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation is appealing to businesses and the public for donations to help them continue to deliver life-saving services to people with asthma in desperate need of support.

World Asthma Day 2021

World Asthma Day is an event held each May to improve awareness of asthma and care around the world. The theme for this year’s World Asthma Day is “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions” to address common myths and misconceptions about asthma.
