Angus Shares His Story

Angus

This is a compelling narrative and we thank Angus for sharing his story. It combines personal experience, medical history, and advocacy for better asthma education and management.

Early Onset and Limited Treatments: Angus has had asthma since childhood, with his mother recognising the condition early due to her medical background. He describes the limited treatments available in the past, such as Franol Tablets, Brovon inhalant, and aspirin (now contraindicated for children under 16).

  1. Evolving Treatments: His treatment journey evolved significantly over the years, from early medications to modern treatments like Fostair, Montelukast, Fexofenadine, Dymista nasal spray, and Tezspire injections, which he started in August 2025 and considers a “game changer.”
  2. Impact on Life: Asthma affected his childhood, causing him to miss a significant portion of school and limiting his ability to participate in sports. Later in life, his worsening condition brought fears and vulnerability, impacting his quality of life and his family.
  3. Worst Asthma Attack: Angus recounts his most severe asthma attack in April 2024, which led to hospitalisation and a turning point in his treatment plan.
  4. Importance of Education: Despite being a pharmacist and having lifelong experience with asthma, Angus emphasises the importance of continuous education about asthma and its treatments for both patients and their families.
  5. Key Message: He stresses the importance of using preventative inhalers daily as prescribed, rather than relying solely on reliever inhalers, and seeking medical help promptly when losing control of asthma.
