National recognition celebrates Asthma and Allergy Foundation’s life-changing work supporting people living with asthma and severe allergies across Scotland
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF) has been recognised as a finalist at The Herald Scottish Impact Awards 2026, celebrating the charity’s positive and growing contribution to communities across Scotland.
Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF) joined other outstanding organisations and individuals at the awards ceremony in Glasgow, which celebrated those creating meaningful social, environmental and economic change.
As Scotland’s only dedicated asthma and allergy charity, AAF provides practical education, training and personalised support to adults, young people, children, families and carers. Its work helps people recognise symptoms, manage their conditions confidently and respond appropriately during potentially life-threatening emergencies.
Asthma and Allergy Foundation also delivers asthma and allergy workshops in schools, accredited training in workplaces and communities, supports people through its advice line and works with healthcare professionals, businesses and public-sector partners to reduce preventable asthma attacks, hospital admissions and health inequalities.
During the 2024–2025 financial year, the charity supported 23,645 people, delivered 4,186 asthma workshops and training sessions, and answered thousands of advice-line calls.
Dr Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, Chief Executive Officer of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, said “Being named a finalist at The Herald Scottish Impact Awards is a tremendous honour and a powerful recognition of the difference our work is making across Scotland. “This achievement belongs to our entire AAF family – our trustees, independent clinical advisers, ambassadors, staff, volunteers, funders, sponsors and partners, as well as the adults, young people, children and families who place their trust in us.
“While we did not take home the award, standing alongside so many exceptional organisations was an achievement of which we are incredibly proud. It strengthens our determination to ensure that everyone living with asthma or severe allergies has the knowledge, confidence and support needed to live safely and well.”
Mr Denis Pinto, Trustee of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, said “This recognition reflects the commitment, professionalism and compassion demonstrated by the entire AAF team. The charity continues to turn its vision into practical, measurable support for thousands of people across Scotland. As trustees, we are immensely proud of what has been achieved and excited about the organisation’s future.”
Barry Duncan, AAF Ambassador and Vice President Finance at CNR International, said “It is a great honour for AAF to be nominated. The entire team should be very proud of themselves and of the positive difference they continue to make.”
Michael Matheson, AAF Ambassador and former Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care, said “Well done to the AAF team. The nomination alone reflects the very valuable role of AAF and the importance of its work supporting people affected by asthma and allergies.”
Colin Black, AAF Ambassador, and Managing Director of Carjon-NRG and Chair of the UK Energy Technology Platform, “Congratulations to Martina and #TeamAAF. To be recognised as a Scottish Impact Awards finalist is a great honour and a testament to all the tremendous positive contributions being made by the charity.”
Asthma and Allergy Foundation extends its sincere thanks to The Herald Scottish Impact Awards judges, organisers and event team for recognising and celebrating organisations delivering positive change across Scotland.
The charity also thanks its wider team and every individual, family, partner and supporter who contributes to its work. Their collective commitment enables Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF) to continue expanding its reach, improving asthma and allergy education and helping to save lives.
