Background
A primary school reached out to us about a pupil with severe allergies who was experiencing anxiety regarding managing their condition. The child often felt isolated during snack and lunch times, which impacted their social interactions and overall well-being.
Intervention
We organised a workshop focused on allergy awareness for the entire class, emphasising the importance of inclusivity and understanding. During the session, we provided education about common allergens, how to recognise allergic reactions, and the importance of supporting peers with allergies.
Outcome
Following the workshop, the child reported feeling more confident and included in their class. Their peers became more proactive in understanding and respecting their allergies, leading to a more supportive environment. The child’s anxiety decreased significantly, allowing them to participate in social activities without fear.
This case underscores the impact of community education on empowering children with allergies, illustrating how awareness and understanding can foster a more inclusive and supportive school environment.
