New Year's Resolution campaign: Breath Easier in 2025

As we welcome the new year, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF) is excited to announce their New Year’s Resolution Campaign, encouraging individuals to take proactive steps for better asthma management. With a focus on commitment and education, this campaign aims to empower those affected by asthma to lead healthier, more active lives.

Key Resolutions for 2025:

  1. Commit to Medication Adherence: Set reminders to ensure asthma medications are taken consistently and correctly.
  2. Create an Asthma Action Plan: Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop or update personalized asthma action plans for effective symptom management.
  3. Improve Indoor Air Quality: Invest in air purifiers and regularly clean-living spaces to reduce allergens and irritants.
  4. Stay Active: Incorporate regular exercise into daily routines, focusing on safe activities that accommodate individual asthma needs.
  5. Educate Yourself: Attend AAF workshops or read about asthma triggers, treatments, and management strategies to enhance knowledge.
  6. Monitor Symptoms Regularly: Keep a symptom diary or use mobile apps to track asthma symptoms and peak flow readings.
  7. Reduce Stress: Practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises to manage stress, a common asthma trigger.
  8. Stay Updated on Vaccinations: Ensure vaccinations, including the flu vaccine, are up to date to help prevent respiratory infections.
  9. Limit Exposure to Triggers: Identify and minimise exposure to known asthma triggers, such as pollen, pet hair, and smoke.
  10. Healthy Eating: Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids to help reduce inflammation.
  11. Regular Check-Ups: Schedule appointments with healthcare providers to review asthma management and adjust treatments as necessary.

“Taking control of asthma is essential for a healthier lifestyle,” said Vicki McGrain Rae, Head of Services and Health Promotion at Asthma and Allergy Foundation. “Our New Year’s Resolution Campaign provides practical steps that individuals can take to manage their condition effectively. Together, we can make a significant difference in our community’s health.”
