Asthma and Allergy Foundation Hosted Unforgettable Sports and Networking Dinner in Aberdeen

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF) hosted a spectacular Sports and Networking Dinner on September 14, 2023 at the prestigious Chester Hotel Aberdeen. The event brought together an impressive lineup of sports and business personalities for an evening of inspiration and camaraderie.

The star-studded guest list included Aberdeen FC legends Jim Leighton, Neil Simpson, John Hewitt, Drew Jarvie, and Willie Garner, who graced the occasion with their presence. Among them was the celebrated Olympic Swimmer Hannah Miley, who delivered a captivating keynote speech, sharing how her battle with asthma did not deter her from achieving remarkable success in her career.

Among them was the celebrated Olympic Swimmer Hannah Miley, who delivered a captivating keynote speech, sharing how her battle with asthma did not deter her from achieving remarkable success in her career.

The event was skilfully hosted by the renowned BBC Scotland and BT Sport Commentator, Rob Maclean, who added an extra layer of prestige to the evening. Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, CEO of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, opened the evening with a warm welcome and introduced the organisation’s mission. In a thought-provoking moment, Martina raised a vital question to the attendees: “Do you know what to do in the event of an asthma attack?” The resounding “no” emphasized the need for asthma awareness and education.

The evening also featured an engaging “heads and tails” game, which challenged attendees to recall the release years of iconic songs, adding an element of fun and competition to the evening.

Vicki McGrain Rae, the Head of Services and Health Promotion, took the stage to present the important work carried out by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, highlighting the organisation’s dedication to improving the lives of individuals affected by asthma. Philip Crawford, Head of Business Development, delivered a powerful call to action, emphasizing the importance of asthma awareness in businesses and communities. He introduced the organisation’s eLearning program, designed to make individuals and businesses asthma-aware.

One of the highlights of the evening was a candid chat with the football legends, where they shared their personal experiences and discussed the future of Scottish football development, leaving the audience inspired and informed.

The event also featured numerous raffles and auction prizes, giving attendees the opportunity to win exciting rewards. A special jazz rendition by Shola Okunuga added a musical touch to the evening, creating a truly memorable atmosphere.
